ALLOW FAMILIES WHO PARTICIPATE IN PUBLIC BENEFIT PROGRAMS TO HAVE AT LEAST THREE MONTH'S INCOME IN SAVINGS

Low-income families who participant in public benefit programs are often limited in how much money they are allowed to have in savings.  Most of these programs — like the Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF), for example — include some sort of asset limit.  These amounts are state specific, but some states will not allow a family to have even $1,000 in savings if they want to participate in the program.

This is absurd logic.  Families should be able to have AT LEAST three month's income in savings.  If families are not allowed to save money, they will never be able to be self-sufficient — and therefore be on these programs forever.  #TheButterflyEffect
